A "Move"

I decided to separate my pregnancy/mom blog from my regular onegeekygirl.com blog.  So, I imported everything here and to onegeekygirl.com/oggmom .  I was tweeting about my daughter ripping out her earring and a book about killing monsters and they showed up in the same post.  I guess, if I really think about it, if someone comes to my sight because I post about a zombie book they may be a little shocked to find the previous post about my next possible ovulation day.  And vice versa.  Well I'm off to erase the obvious existence of my ovaries from the other site! :)

Another cute find from my favorite Japanese goods store here in Las Vegas, Tokyo Discount.  I added some other cute stamps to my Amazon shop.  There wasn't very much to chose from.  Etsy, on the other hand had P.L.E.N.T.Y.!!!  If you haven't been to Etsy yet...GO!  NOOOOW!!!  I love to promote Etsy because it's mostly handmade goods by real artists!  What could be better than to find something cute AND support an artist?!  If you check it out and sign up (it's FREE!), then be sure to put me in as your referral:  JessyWantsOne is my Etsy username.  I'm going to put an Etsy widget with some of my favorite finds on here too.

On this stamp kick, here are my favorite Etsy finds of the night:

In other OGGY news:

I'm starving all the time!!!  So hungry!  Just like the last time I was pregnant, I'm craving mexican food (can you even call Taco Bell mexican food really?).  I'll make myself sweet things (I made chocolate chip cookies AND no bake cookies this week), or buy a candy bar or something while I'm checking out at the grocery store and when the cookies are done or I remember the candy... I don't want it.  I look at it and think "Hmmm... I'd sure like a Volcano Meal right now."  I even bought stuff to make my own tacos/burritos at home. I made a bunch of yummy turkey meat with sweet peppers and stuff and homemade salsa.  I've eaten it maybe twice, grudgingly.  I get done and think about how much yummier Taco Bell would've have been.   Let's hope the test comes out positive next we so I have a good reason for this hunger!

Here We Grown Again! Hopefully.

I think I'm insane.  Completely.  I remember having my first baby and thinking to myself (very clearly) "never again!"  As a matter of fact I think I actually said that to pretty much everyone I managed to come into contact with those first few months.  That feeling had nothing to do with my awesome daughter.  It was all the pregnancy, labor and delivery.  I was sick of being sick, and terrified of labor and delivery again.  Plus I was still healing.  So, every move was accompanied by pain.

Well, like "they" say, you really do forget the pain.  So, since the baby was 6 months old I've slowly been starting to long for another little one.  Two things kept me from actually getting started on one though: a) my cycle hadn't returned, I was still breastfeeding a lot, and b) the man of the house needed some convincing.  With the economy and politics the way they are he wasn't on board with the idea of having to worry about supporting another person.  I'm still a stay at home mom.  So, we're operating on a one parent income and things can be pretty tight; Especially now that we actually own a home.

After much deliberation we've decided to go ahead and try for number two.  My cycle returned 2 months ago after I started giving the little one a small bottle of milk before her evening feed.  We just started trying this cycle.  I'm on cycle day 15.  We've essentially done things the same as last time.  I keep forgetting to use the ovulation predictor kit.  I think we've covered my usual ovulation days this month though.

Signs that I might be pregnant:

*Fatigue!!!

*The Nose is back.  All sorts of smells are much stronger and bothersome.  I had to throw away the garlic I had sitting on my counter and move the air freshener I had sitting by my sink.  I couldn't bare to eat more than a nibble of the homemade fig newtons I tried to bake yesterday because all I could smell was citrus from the orange peel I added.

*Loss of appetite and sudden cravings.  I'm not really hungry most of the day right now.  I was doing really well eating 5 times a day, 3 healthy meals and 2 snacks. My only cheat day was on Sunday when I bake something new.  Lately I just don't want anything except the meaty spaghetti I cooked earlier in the week.  I have a big bowl for lunch every day.  I majorly started craving Oreos all of a sudden.  I found a recipe and made them (tasted EXACTLY the SAME!) and couldn't eat any.  I ate a piece of one to test the results, but haven't touched them since.  I just don't want them.

*The ache.  I have this slight ache when I do certain activities.  It's in the same area where I might feel PMS cramps, but it's always there.

*My deodorant has suddenly stopped working. Maybe a hormonal change?  The same stuff that usually lasts me all day is melted away by the time I'm done with my morning errands.

All of this may just be my body still adjusting to getting my cycles back.  Maybe it's just bad PMS.  Mine usually starts around day 14 and is a beast.  So, we'll see.  I can test a week from this Tuesday. :)  ~crossing my fingers~

13 Months

My daughter is a little over 13 months now.  It's amazing to see how much she's changed.  I can't believe the little spec on that first 8 week ultrasound photo is now sprawled next to me on the couch.  She has my (and my grandmother's) eyebrows, a recessive reddish tinge to her hair none of us were expecting, her daddy's eyes and smile, and my temper.  Coupled with my husband's stubbornness, I have a feeling that the temper will make for an interesting challenge in the weeks and months to come.

A House A Home

So, my little family has spent the last few weeks looking for a house!  We decided to stay in vegas for a few more years after all.  After researching rentals the last few months, the thought of paying someone else's mortgage kind of irked me.  At first it was the best option for us because we had a possible transfer with my husband's job in the works.  So, we needed the flexibility.  After we put the breaks on all that though we looked to see what was for sale in the same neighborhoods as the rentals we'd been considering.

Our searches pretty much consisted of: driving through neighborhoods to get the feel of them  and writing down the addresses of homes we liked with "for sale" signs.  Then, we'd come home and I'd look the homes up on realtor.com, zillow.com, and trulia.com  to get as much info as I could.  If we really liked a property I'd send the mls# to our realtor and go from there.  After losing a bidding war on a home we absolutely loved I was pretty bummed, but we did finally get a house!  We're just waiting and in the paperwork portion of buying a home now.

The other night I stumbled upon blockshopper.com

I think this is a great site for anyone shopping for a home right now.  You can enter a street name or specific address and access all kinds of useful information.  How many foreclosures are in the neighborhood?  How much did the original owner pay for this house?  How about the last owner?  How much were other homes in this neighborhood sold for and when?  All this is easily accessible at the Blockshopper site without having to register or pay or anything like that.  Pretty great.

Another handy site when deciding where to live whether you're looking to buy OR rent, especially if you have a family:

FamilyWatchdog.us is probably not the first place online you might think to go when looking for a place to live, but should be a part of your neighborhood research.  I want to know if the guy with the cute puppies that lives 3 houses down is a registered sex offender; especially now that I have a child.

Yaay for Snaps!!!

We've cloth diapered since A came home from the hospital.  I love doing it and have a nice little stash of diapers going.  We started with fitted diapers by Kissaluvs and Prowrap covers (both purchased from Nicki's Diapers).  As soon as A was big enough we switched to pocket diapers by BumGenius, Happy Heiny's and Blueberry Diapers.  As soon as I received the Blueberry diapers they became my favorites for 3 reasons: a) I could just lay the insert in the diaper (instead of in the pocket) and once it was wet I could just switch out the insert like a fitted diaper which means less laundry and longer lasting diapers. b) These diapers are really slim fitting. c) The SNAPS!  My HH and BG diapers were all hook and loop (velcro-like) closure.  Snaps, in my opinion, are much easier to deal with!  The hook and loop closures tend to catch onto other diapers or themselves (despite the "laundry tabs" that are included on the diaper and supposed to prevent this) which causes them to fray.  In the case of my BumGenius this means the closures have actually stopped sticking closed well.  Another negative to the hook n loops is the edging around the closures on both the BG and HH diapers have curled up a bit from washing and chafe A's little belly or hips if I don't cover the diaper with some kind of bottom (no onesies!).  So, I'm definitely a pro-snaps mom.  Snaps have issues too of course.  I've only actually seen this on my Blueberry inserts, but pulling on the snaps to open them (or leaving them closed when washing) can cause the fabric to wear and rip.  Also, I've heard that the snaps can wear over time as well and not close as well.

As time has gone on,  A has grown and become a heavier wetter.  This means the whole switch-it-out method I was using with the Blueberry diapers is no longer as option.  These diapers are not an overnight option for us any longer either because I find my poor little one with some nice leakage around the leg holes after a while.  So, I was so excited when I went to Nicki's Diapers and found out that Happy Heiny's now has a snap version of their one-size pocket diaper.

Happy Heiny's have been my favorite since the Blueberries stopped containing and the BumGenius started to fray and not close.  So, to find them available in snaps made me really happy!

I highly recommend Nicki's Diaper's too!  She offers free shipping on a lot of items (including pocket diapers!) and orders over $75.  I always get my orders from her quickly.  The only negative I can really point out about this site is that every once in a while she's out of a specific color I want.

eta: About a week after receiving my Happy Heiny's snap diapers a couple of the snaps completely ripped out of one tab.  The same thing happened to another diaper about a month after that.  I've contacted HH and have been instructed to return the diapers for a replacement.  I'll post about the replacements once I have them.

A New Favorite

If you're interested in green, sustainable, organic, eco... etc. parenting, then definitely check out Inhabitots!  I don't even remember what I was searching for to stumble upon this site, but it's a new favorite.  Some of the products they feature/review on the site I am familiar with, but many many more are new finds for me.  I love finding new resources to support the parenting choices I've decided to make.  So, it's very exciting to find so many resources in one place!  Check it out!
